Cultural celebrations and festivals are common to people all over the world. Learning about multi-cultural celebrations, allows the students to identify the aspects of cultural uniqueness that address the historical, social and doctrinal elements of those religions worldwide.
VINAYAKA CHATHURTHI
The all-powerful Lord Sri Vidhya Ganapathi, is our presiding Deity. The devotion to Lord Sri Ganesha assures prosperity and protection against adversity. He is the God of all good beginnings and an incarnation of Wisdom.
The students participate in the Prayers, Bhajans and listen to Upanyasams made by illustrious and pious personalities. Laksharchanai is performed on payment, on the names of the students who opt for it and Prasadam is distributed. Selected students clad in dhoti and uttariyam, chant mantras and perform Laksharchanai.
NAVARATHRI GOLU
Navarathi dispenses a wide spectrum of festivities expressed in diverse ways. Golu is an integral part of the celebration. The display of dolls depicts the aspect of secularism. It is a social get-together with invitations extended to all parents, their friends and relatives. The beautifully illuminated Golu welcomes the invitees to convey a spiritual thought.
The entire environment resonates with sanctitude, as musical concerts, devotional hymns, slokas and harikathas by artistic prodigies, students and staff, praise the Shakthi Swaroopini. Prasadam is served. Thamboolam is distributed to the invitees as a part of hospitality. Students understand the divine presence behind each idol in this glitzy celebration and take responsibility in preserving the age-old culture.
RAMZAN
Ramzan is celebrated to treasure the values laid down in the Quran. The students assemble for the function that marks spiritual reflection and devotion.
Students appreciate the significance of fasting and learn that spirituality is a part of strengthening the body, the mind and the spirit. The relevance of the festival is portrayed in the form of programmes that extol the values of Islam and acclaim Prophet Muhammad - the Messenger of God. The students participate in the function and appreciate secularism.
CHRISTMAS
Christmas is celebrated to cherish the ethics of life that are etched in the Bible. The students soak in the spirit of Christmas, the annual commemoration of the birth of Lord Jesus Christ, by singing carols. Ornate decorations are made with stars and lights.
Santa Claus makes his appearance to augment the mood of jubilation. This celebration adulates humanity. The learned Priest enlightens the students on the greatness of Lord Jesus Christ and the values inscribed in the Holy Bible.
PONGAL
Pongal - a multi-day harvest festival, is celebrated to thank the Sun god, the forces of nature, the farm animals and people who support agriculture. This festival is viewed as a social festival by the students. Vibrant decorations boost the festive atmosphere and make the celebration mirthful.
The festival marks joy and cheer, blending spirituality and prosperity. The entire ambience reverberates with bright smiles and wishes. The students understand that it is a manifestation of rich culture. They preserve and reserve the memories of the festivity.
MOTHER'S DAY - SMT. SUNDARAVALLI AMMAL BIRTH ANNIVERSARY
Every mother is an icon of all moral qualities and that is why she replaces God. The students learn to appreciate and praise such a quintessential example of morality, during the Mother's Day Celebration.
On the 19th of July every year, the Birth Anniversary of Smt. K. Sundaravalli, is celebrated as the Mother's Day.
Songs in praise of the Mother and speeches that highlight the greatness of Mother are the special features of the day.
Special discourse enlightens the students on the 'Greatness of Mother'.
TEACHERS' DAY
The 5th of September of every year, is celebrated as the Teachers' Day, to commemorate the birthday of the multi-faceted man of sagacity, Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan - the first Vice-President and second President of the Independent India.
On this occasion, the students show their gratitude to teachers who shape them into good human beings. They understand that their future depends on their teachers who inspire, persuade, educate, enlighten and empower them.
